Getting Unstuck.
Objects in motion tend to stay in motion.
Deep down, most of us know we’re built for more.
It’s why Disney movies become blockbusters and why Marvel has us all waiting for the next movie. The human soul is built for significance. This isn’t to downplay the joys of the mundane: Finding a job that creates value, raising a family, creating a home, eating fresh food, and enjoying the seasonal changes.
Deep down, though, we all crave a life built for more. It’s why we watch Moana hop on her boat and sail off into the ocean she isn’t prepared for and we’re gripped for the next 2 hours. It’s why we all wanted the Mighty Ducks to rise up for the win, and it’s why many have the audacity to run marathons or triathlons.
You have a desire for greatness mixed up with a longing for adventure, wanting a dash of significance on top.
God created that longing in us. It’s ultimately a longing for life with God.
The “more” we desire is not more things, success, money, people, or fame. It’s a desire for God himself.
I’m fully convinced that life with God is the most exciting thing in the world. The gospel turns the mundane on its head. The moment we are saved by Jesus we are living for a purpose beyond anything this world can offer. Suddenly your workplace isn’t a ladder to climb, but an environment prime for God to move. Your family is something you’re building up for eternity, and the world is not doomed, but destined for us to rise up and take responsibility for it.
What kind of life is possible with God?
That is the question I dare you to ask.
Many of us in the West feel stuck. There is a disconnect in our brain of how we are supposed to live a life of faith in Jesus beyond attending a Sunday service.
Let’s be real, most of us are bored. I know I am.
But there’s good news: Life with God is so much more.
We’ll spend 70% of our lives at 72 degrees Fahrenheit and 95% of our lives indoors. In essence, we’re comfortable. Although comfort isn’t inherently bad, when we don’t have it in its proper place, it can eat away at our soul. We are made to walk in faith. When we don’t have an outlet in our lives to do so, we’ll feel it in our souls. It’s why a lot of us feel stuck. Scripture makes a serious case about it.
“And without faith, it is impossible to please God.”-Hebrews 11:6
When was the last time you made a decision in faith? A decision where you would fall flat on your face if God did not respond? When was the last time you believed in something that would be utterly impossible without God intervening?
“If you love me, you will obey my commandments.” John 14:15
Ultimately God’s love language is obedience, yet many of us get stuck learning more and more in our minds, but it’s our feet to the ground that really God that we love him.
There are so many good books and great sermons, but at the end of the day, what does it look like to practically follow the commands of Jesus, especially in the 21st century?
I’m no expert, but I wanna take a stab at it.
We are saved by faith, but faith without works is dead. I think a lot of us have the first part understood, it’s the second part that we struggle with a bit.
Faith Journey is for anyone who’s felt discouraged, stuck, or simply wants more in their walk with God. It’s for those who want to believe in the impossible but don’t know where to start.
You don’t need to move across the world or quit your day job to live a life of faith, but don’t be surprised if it ends up happening either. We’re signing up for God to have our whole lives, and he seems to love detours.
Yet, God wants you to live a life of faith right where you are. Sometimes it just takes a nudge to get us there. I hope I can be that nudge. I hope that some of these invitations to action become rhythms, and one day you catch yourself noticing that your default to life is to make decisions in faith. Here’s the thing: Just like everything else in life, we need to grow our muscles of faith. Every week, I want to give a practical way to grow that muscle.
Here’s me giving it my best shot.
